how do i get rid of unwanted snails?

i was cleaning my tank and came upon a gigantic colony of snails that rode through a tear down boiling water and now set up in the back part/filter of my tank. i cany have fish back there but thought about assaassin snails. how well do they work? i would need about 10 for how many unwanteds i have

ive read them but where they are there is no room its where the intake and return in my tank are i have to take yhe two pipes out to clean and found the colony. thats why i was wondering about assassins
