Hey does ne1 no roughly how fast common plecs grow? I know its based on food, parents etc but does anyone have a vague idea of x inches per year? It's just I'm poor at the mo, but want to upgrade from a 20 gallon tank to a 400 litre (over 100gallon) one. Its just I have to wait till after my exam results, and if I mess them up, I want to know how much time I have before he gets too big! He seems about 3.5" from head to tail tip. Thanx

I can't tell you how fast they grow other than IMO they grow kinda slow.
The common Plec's that we've had were aprox 2-3" when we got'em and in the course of about a year reached maybe 6-7".

Like you said, a lot depends on feeding. I had a pair of commons in my pond go from 3 to 6-8 inches over the course of a summer.

They may grow a few inches their first couple of years, but after that, they slow down. My pleco has been around for 3+ years and is 7-8".
