How long do you think it takes to seed fresh media(spare) in a canister?

I usually have a spare filter pad or sponge cooking in my canisters for use when I need a QT. This last time I was lazy and didn't put anything back in.

How long do you think it takes to seed media in a canister?

within a week your sponge/pad should be fully colonized. The growth rate will be affected by the amount of fuel (ammonia) available. I've heard nitrobacter colonies double each day (up to to the limit set by ammonia levels), but I'm sure there's a more scientific measurement for the growth.

Sounds reasonable to me. Thanks
