How many barbs recommended?

How many tiger barbs can I place in a 13 gallons tank? Together with maybe 2 clown loaches.

I'd go with 6. That should keep the bio load reasonable and still give you a nice group.

tiger barbs can get about 3 inches long, clown loaches about 6 inches. I'd say thats an alright amount, although eventually could be a tight squeeze.

that's 18 inches of barb and 12 inches of loach, for a total of 30 fish inches in a 13 gallon tank, i thought it should be 30 gallons

That is a little tight if your barbs reach full size, but the barbs don't require as much swimming room so you might be able to pull it off.

CORRECTION: Clown Loaches can get over a foot long so keeping them in a tank that small with other fish is a bad idea.

I'm a big clown loach fan, so I thought I had to speak up here.

In the wild, in Borneo, they have been know to reach one foot long but Clown loaches only reach about 6 inches in captivity.

I have heard that very rarely, clown loaches can reach that size in captivity.

That it because they are usually not givan an approprietely sized aquarium, shorening there lifespan.
