Non-planted tanks, weekly with PWC....
Planted tanks, just enough to spruce up the open visible areas weekly with PWC.

Weekly - but since I don't have "gravel" its a breeze. I just shift the glass beads around and VIOLA the bottom is all clean in less time than it takes to remove 20 - 30% of the water. In all honesty I don't think I'd ever go back to gravel again - this is just TOO easy, and the "view from below" is too wild to give up

Yes I loved those pictures! I think if I ever get MTS I will copy you and try that for a neat effect.

Thanks for the compliment Elle. I did the bottomless thing on the betta tanks also, they only have a few large river rocks in each of their tanks. It really cuts down on the work. I was afraid that it would also cut down on the amt of good bacteria I could hold, but that doesn't seem to be an issue.

WELLLL, They were labeled as flower shrimp when I purchased them.

I've also heard them called Wood shrimp.

They do a very good job of cleaning debris off the bottom, and don't seem to bother my ghost shrimp. They also are very easy to find in the tank.
