What do I need to do to clean the sand. Its around 40 pounds worth, in a bucket. It was use a couple of months. Also, a med. to lg piece of driftwood. What do I need to do to it  I don't think 40 pds is going to be enough so I'll have to get some more. When I get more sand do I run water through it before putting it in the tank? I am making the big move from lg gravel to sand.

Have the sand in a bucket and run a hose in it. Keep filling and emptying the bucket (with occasional stirring) of the water (keep sand in) until the water runs clear. At this point your sand is clean. Assuming the driftwood is leached of tannins, a boil will be enough just to get the bad stuff off if there is any.
