I returned my gourami back to my pet store.
He was terrorizing and nipping my cories.

So i'm left with 6 cories (bottom feeder) and 6 danios (top feeder)
so I need a middle feeder/centerpiece fish.

P.S
No gouramis, i've had bad luck with them.

Silver dollars are a cool fish. They get kind of big.....how big is the tank? They are a schooling fish so you should get a few if you decide on them.

school of rummies or something like that. Or do you want a larger fish.

yeah - preferably a larger fish (maybe 1 or 2)
considering I have danios - which are small and very similar to tetras

I just noticed the tank is 20 gallons. Personally, I think that is too small for a school of silver dollars. How about a school of rainbowfish? Or a pair of dwarf cichlids?

hrrm rainbowfish sounds cool
are they schooling ??

dwarf cichilds - are they nippy? i don't like nippy fish

I have a ram in with corys and he leaves them completely alone. I think they have the potential to be aggressive if they are breeding.....

The Rainbows are schooling fish....The bosemani rainbows are very pretty and brightly colored once they mature.

The rams are also quite attractive and a pair would do well as centerpiece fish...

I also like glass catfish and they are middle dwellers. Very cool looking but definitely not colorful.

I was just looking at some pictures of silver dollars.

they remind me of a smaller/less colourful Discus.
do u agree??

they are round like a discus too.

IME...I have noticed dwarf cichlids are almost always at the bottom of the tank.

I think rainbows or tetras would make good additions.

Hi,

Great thread... I also have a 20 gal tank and looking for a centerpiece fish... I like the idea of a silver dollar (they look great)...

Won´t they get too big for a 20gal? One source of info says they get 4.1 to 9.5 inches long, another mentions 8 inches. One source says they require a tank at least 36 to 48 inches long and the other source mentions 48 inches long.

I think this fish gets too big for a 20 gal...

Bala Sharks need to be in groups as well. They get a foot long. Not gonna work in a 20.

are there any fish that not schooling ? and wouldn't mind being kept alone/solitary?

if only the gourami weren't aggressive.

You could do an angel, I like the dwark cichlid idea.

I will look into the cichlid idea.
i've never kept cichlids - so I'll read about them.

about the angel - I already have a tank with them (check my sig)
just trying something a little different.

thanks for the help
