Ich like spots gone?

Last week I saw my firemouths had white spots on their heads and it was starting to spread through their whole body. Figuring it was ich, I cranked my heater to 86(F) and watched my fish. Within 48 hours it's all gone so I plan to leave it up for the next week or two, but was it really ich? I always heard it'd get worse for a few days, not instantly get better.

Every time I've had ich it's always been within a week of a recent purchase if that helps. And the same that it takes a week or two to go. Only other things I can think of would be maybe fungal (but generally don't get round spots) or some sort of bacterial/parasite pimple (but usually leave a bigger crater in scales).
