I brought home a tiny clown loach on Saturday. I haven't seen him since Sunday a.m. hiding behind foliage. I picked up both caves, not under or in.

Where could he be?

In something you don't think even half of him would fit in!
I have 11 in my 180 and they pack like sardines into tight spots...

They are not as hardy when young.
It would be good to find or see him every couple days.
Lets a small amount of food settle to bottom for it to find if he comes out.
They can be very nocturnal ,also .
Mine are 10-15 years old.

Found him. I have a fake rock formation. I pulled it out and stuck my finger into a hole. Felt him wiggle. Little turd.

I have to leave for work. Do I force him out after work? Replace the ornament with something he can't get it? Or let him be?

Let him be...
He really needs friends to do best..
4-5 at least...They are a very social fish and really do best with their own..
What size tank?

Ok. I'll see about getting another one. The tank is 30 gal. Small for loaches I know but I'm on a foster program.

It's honestly better to take him back and get the correct fish for the tank, your just killing the fish slowly unless you can upgrade to a150-180 within a couple years

In my personal opinion the more the better but I have 2 and they are absolutely fine as a pair, do not freak out if you see it laying on its side or back they play dead.
