Aquarium Advice FINatic
Well, I finally went to the last LFS in town that I have never visited... and oops, I came home with a fish.
Now, some of you may remember that I was looking for a pleco to add to my tank and that I was going to wait a couple of months. I was also leaning towards a bristlenose pleco as well. Well, none of that happened.
While I was there, I noticed that they had an over abundance of pleco's. Pitbull ($7.99), Common, Green Rubber Nose ($12.99), Royal (no price), Gold Nugget ($29.99), and Clown ($8.99). The guy said that they like to order a wide variety because they have a market more for the rare than the commons. Every other fish shop I have visited said the opposite. I guess I found my new favorite LFS (not to mention their other wide variety of fish: including the 120 gal "aquascaped" cichlid tank - as much as one can "aquascape" a cichlid tank).
Anyway, I ended up coming home with a 2" clown pleco. Fast little suckers they are. Guy had to use two nets to get him. He's currently acclimating, but I'll get some pics in a few hours. Hopefully he likes his new home.
Because it was an impulse buy, I really didn't do much research like I should have. The clowns were on my original list so I knew he would fit in my 29 gal and would be fine, but I didn't read about other specs. As a result, I've got to order a nice piece of real driftwood. Hopefully he'll be fine until then.
I was thinking I would be in the dog house when I got home and my wife found out I bought a fish, but she's actually ok about it. I take this as a sign that she has finally accepted my fish keeping hobby.
Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
