Fresh is always better. But the Protein content in Freeze Dried is way higher than flake/pellet. I would suggest using a staple pellet or flake, and feeding freeze dried 1-3 feedings a week.

This is because the food absorbs water and then expands in the stomach of the fish. To avoid this, soak the food in a cup of tank water for a few minutes before feeding.
