Is it possible for a clam to disapear?

I had 3 clams in my tank, and 2 died, so I was trying to find the 3rd under the sand and couldnt find him for the life of me!

I literally dug every surface of that sand with my fingers everywhere he could be within a 1 foot radius!

Is it possible he died and disolved. My nitrite levels went up a little earlier last week, and I did some every day PWC, and now it is definately going down. Could he be a gonner and dissolved within a weeks time (I searched a week ago)

Well, I wouldn't think so unless your Ph is really low and your KH is reasonably low.
It should be in there somewere.
