Hey Everyone,
I was wondering our tank started to break out in a rusty brown powdery substance. It's on all my plants some real, some fake. And on the the glass and rocks. Any thoughts?

Is your tank recently established? If so its probably diatoms

Yes! First time I have heard of diatoms. Do you know where I can find out more?

I would just google it I really don't know, but I do know that otos and nerite snails eat it. It will also eventually go away on its own

Thanks!

2nd diatoms, bit of a nuisance in newly set up tanks, will go on there own over time and are very easily cleaned, though return very quickly until they finished off there food source. Not a problem unless in really high numbers.

Don't buy any fish etc for diatoms as when they go you will have to substitute with other food like courgette, cucumber etc and I've never really seen any fish or snails that make much of a difference to it.
