is adding too much dechlorinator bad for the tank water chemistry?

I'm not meaning like 4x as much, but around 1.5 to 2 times what I should. I use 2 gallon pails I to fill the tank and I add the dechlorinator to just shy of the level for 5 gallons per pail. I ALWAYS test the CL level before adding the water.

No, it's not a big deal to overdose it, some dechlorinators like Prime even give instructions on how/when to overdose in the case of an emergency or high levels of chlorine.

I've even seen it argued that overdosing can actually be a good thing, but I don't know how true it is.
