Ivy for tank

I was wondering about plants for aquaria, and recently saw a friends tanks, in which he had ivy in the water. I'm curious as to whether this would work well. Devils ivory.

I dont know anything about devils ivy but pothos vine can hang out of the tank and looks cool.
