I am quarentining and treating 18 platys I purchased from Petsmart for ich. No big deal. What I have discovered is they are jumpers!
The first one I found, I just thought it was a fluke. The second one I found, I covered the equipment opening. The third one I found, I thouroughly covered and weighted the piece of plastic!
Anbody else notice this with platys? I have never kept platies before.

I have 5 platys in my 29g and they have never jumped. I have had these for 3 months now and haven't seem them jump yet, although does sound interesting.

Platies (but more usually swordtails) can be notorious jumpers. People have lost almost entire schools in a couple of days. I wouldn't house them without a secure lid. It's part of their natural behavior. They don't leap out of fright only, if you've ever seen them in a pond or outdoor pool the males especially frequently display that way. Large swordtails can easily leap several feet, you have to see it to believe it!
