i've been trying to find a kind of catfish, like a pictus, that will grow large enough that it won't get eaten by an oscar. somthing in the 5-7 inch range. any suggestions?

Most would appreciate different water conditions than those preferred by the oscar.

well noted,

I forget there are cichlids that aren't africans. too quick to answer sometimes

i ended up getting what the store told me was a stripped pictus. looks just like the spotted ones but they are stripped and get bigger. they had one in their display tank that was 8 inches. all the ones they are selling are 3-4 at the time. i was told it will eat smaller fish but all the fish are the same size. they recommended it to me to go in with oscars.
