Light is making ALGAE GROW!

I have a rock centerpiece in my tank and have noticed that algae is growing on it, but only on the parts that get light shined on them. Right now it is not a big problem, but I was wondering where I could buy a good light for cheap. Maybe at Home Depot instead of a pet store.

Another thing, what other consequences come from having an old fluorescent light?
