Lighting in a non planted tank.

Can anyone tell me what a reasonable time is to leave lights on a nonplanted 90 Gal tank with a few rosy barbs and a bristlenose pleco. I have a newly cycled tank and starting to get brown algea on silk plants toward the top of the tank only. I have a perfecto full hood with 2 48" t-10 daylight bulbs, no wattage on the bulbs. Currently leave lights on for about 10 hours,I usually only use one bulb, as this lights up tank just fine. Could this be because I am leaving lights on too long ? Any info will greatly be appreciated.

Most new cycled tanks will suffer an algae bloom (diatoms) eventually. Reduced lighting (between 6-8 hours) will definitely help. Also, reduced feedings are a benefit. I'm not sure but their are some plecos that will eat diatoms...not sure if the BN does.

I only keep my lights on for about 5 hours a day. They also get sunlight though.
