looking for suggestions on upgrades for my tank - Aquarium Advice

afternoon all i want to try and upgrade my tanks equipment here is what i have so far
120 gal fresh water tank
2 Visi-Therm Deluxe Heaters 200 watt
aquaclear 500 pump/filter
maxima 5 air pump
4 40 watt floresent bulbs( still having aglea problems)

my saturate is sand but i hate it so im switching to gravel. im also thinking about getting a protien scimmer and upgrading my aquaclear 500. if you have any ideas for equipment that i dont have or should upgrade please post. there is so many things out there hehe its hard to know what i should get

A protein skimmer is not really meant for FW aquariums. If I would suggest anything it would be a diatom filter to polish the water weekly. The rest of your equipment looks perfect for a low light planted, or fish only tank.
