Aquarium Advice Apprentice
1~What type of fish is afflicted? In addition, please describe what is wrong with the fish to the best of your ability (i.e. cotton like growth, bloated, etc.).
-Lost 1 of my Panda Corys- He was inactive and appeared to be laboring to breathe shortly before the end. When removed he had a red spot toward the tail but fore of the aft spot.
2~What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp, pH)? Please give exact values.
-tested this morning- pH 8.0 NH3 0 NO2 0 NO3 5-10
3~ How large is the tank? How long has the tank been set up?
-29 gallons- approx a month
4~What type of filtration are you using? Please give the name and number (i.e. Fluval 304) and amount of gph if known.
-penguin 150 HOB
5~How many fish are in the tank? What kinds of fish are they and what are their current sizes?
-2 Red Wag Platies(~2"), 3(now 2) panda corys(~1")
6~When is the last time you did a water change and vacuum the gravel? How often do you do this? How much water do you remove at a time?
-Sunday, before adding the corys, usually once or twice per week- approx 20% per change
7~How long have you had the fish? If the fish is new, how did you acclimate it/them?
-5 days, added Sunday and lost on Friday. Acclimated by sitting bag to adjust temp and adding tank water to bag in several small doses. netted fish and added to tank
8~Have you added anything new to the tank--decor, new dechlorinator, new substrate, etc.?
-added a small piece of driftwood on Tuesday- was soaked for 48 hrs, then boiled for 35 minuted then soaked in conditioner treated water for another couple of hours before adding
9A~What kind of food have you been feeding your fish, have you changed their diet recently?
- Hakari Algae wafer, Omega One flakes, freeze dried bloodworms- no changes
The thing that concerned me was the reddish spot on the cory's body looked like possible internal bleeding...
All the other fish seem to be healthy and active...
Any thoughts?
