Lunar Light Led?

Anyone know what LED's are used in the Lunar Lights? I have a Current USA Light Strip with a builtin lunar light and I want to get a couple more leds and attach them to the existing system. Problem being, I want to match up the LED's color and intensity.

It is the white color I'm referring too.

I had the current USA 30" dual lighting system with 1 light in it too. It didnt do anything in my deep column aquarium so I just put 2 add on lights on the system. They were blue however which I like the look of better.

Typically these are high output LEDs with a Large light exposure. If you do a quick search for "LED Aquarium Moonlighting" you will find many options including white ones that are a loose system that you can wire up yourself. Good luck.

Thanks, I'm well versed in dealing with LED's (made a bunch of computer mods with a variety of LED's). I was just curious if anyone knew the particular stats (or where I can find them) of the LED's used in the Lunar Light.

I went ahead and just ordered a few 5mm white 70 degree leds and will probably replace the existing LED.

One concern is that the power supply only supplies 6V. I might end up having to purchase a new power supply to provide enough voltage to wire up the amount of LED's I want (3.6V is typical voltage for the LED's I got). In the mean time I'll be experimenting with how 2 and 3 LED's look (or if they even light up under low voltage) and decide from there.

Since I don't want intense light, I'm hoping that providing low voltage will dim them down and create a better effect, but I'll find out!

if your the diy type, an old computer power supply will run;
+6v
-6v
+12v
-12v

for several devices. just a thought.

yea, but a computer power supply is a bit large and can be noisy. it is a nice source, but I'm sure I can find a smaller power pack that can dish out the 12ish volts should I need them.

Current USA sells Lunar Light devices in White Blue and Red for those who don't have one of their light strips, you could just add one of those.

I use the Hagen Marina LED lighting kits but only for my smaller community tanks. They are useful because they're modular so you can switch in lights as you need. I run some 'spotlight' white LEDs for the plants in one tank, and then moonlight LEDs for two community tanks as a night light (i.e. overnight). The general idea is two-fold: if I can help simulate their natural conditions any better than I already can then why not; and it also contributes to promoting spawning conditions (moonlight that is).
I would say that the lighting kit would be fairly useless in 55gallons or above, but really it depends where you place the LEDs (they are fully submersible).

Just an update,

I got my white leds in from http://www.ledsupply.com to place in my hood (20" Current USA /w 1 Lunar light). I wired them up tonight after dremeling out their new spots (5" and 15", disconnecting the provided hood LED) and it looks spectacular!

I grabbed the 70 degree LED's and they definately put out more coverage and give a better moonlight feel. Once I get my good camera I'll take some pics for you all to see.

FYI, I also was able to run 2 LED's off of the power supply provided (6V 120ma) at 3V each without the need of a resistor. This is slightly undervolted (LED's typical voltage use are 3.6V), but they are plenty bright for this purpose (I actually need to take a look at it when my eye's adjust to the dark incase it might be too bright).

anywho, if you are looking for white LED's I highly recommend these!

I didn't think white LEDs were for simulating moonlight...? I thought they were just for spotlighting certain parts of the tank (e.g. plants, ornaments). I believed a moonlight needed greater emphasis on the blue part of the spectrum...I could be wrong. But, if you are hoping for spawning based on your lighting conditions then if I'm right you may be disappointed Best of luck though
