Male & Female Bettas

I've had a female betta in my community tank for awhile, and today decided to have a go at introducing a male betta.

Well... if he wasn't being picked at by the bleeding heart tetras and tiger barbs in the tank, the female sure was trying to kick his ***! I mean, she was "showing" and everything; and the male was doing the same to her. Is it possible that she is actually a he? I have heard of male bettas that look alot like females.

(The male has since been put into his own tank, [acronym:518fbf40d8="By the way"]btw[/acronym:518fbf40d8].)

I'm glad the male betta has his own tank now! As you have seen, tetras are not the best tank mates for bettas. It is possible that you could have a short-finned male, but usually female and male bettas don't get along well either. They are put together to mate, but then separated soon afterwards.

I have read about bettas, both male OR female, in a community tank. Sometimes it works out (if there are no nippy fish like tetras) and sometimes it doesn't. The fish all have their own personalities, and sometimes the male betta is better off by himself. What size tank is yours in? I have my male bettas in 5.5 gallon tanks. There's a picture in my gallery.

If it has a white spot underneath its stomach; It's a female... Females will often flare at the male. If you added the female to the males tank and add a half styrofoam cup or some floating java moss ( or similar )... you could have babies I have a photo of a spawining tank in my photo gallery I think.... If your interested lol. How big is the males tank?.. bigger than 2.5gal?
