merging my two 20 gal community tanks into 1 55 gal - Aquarium Advice

ooooh, i am nervous excited.

I figure i am going to bring all the substrate, decor, fish and plants from both tanks into the 55. should I also bring the filter media/filters and run them for a while? I also have a 100 gal whisper to use for the new tank.

I would suggest using the filters and media while first setting up, then you can let all 3 run together for some time or take the media from either of the 2 and seed the new filter with it

I totally agree. Whether you run all 3 filters together or just use the media from the two old ones, I would continue to seed your biofilter for about 2 weeks. Make sure you test the water daily and be prepared to do pwc's if necessary. You may see a mini cycle or you may not, but if if happens you should be able to keep perams in check without much trouble.
