I see some Aquariums with the"Moonlight" effect. What lighting is being used? And how much did you pay? Do I need a specific length or strength for a 55g?

I personally do not recommend the moon lights for aquariums because since fish don't have eyelids they need complete dark to sleep. Having a light on in the night prohibits them from doing so.

I completely disagree. A small amount of light nearly always exists in the natural world. They do not need complete dark to sleep. Nor do they prefer it.

No need for moonlights if there is a nightlight in the room though.

Well my living room is almost black at night. theres really no lighting during the night.....so I cant see why a soft moonlight would affect the fish?

I use a simple LED strip, most of them are bright enough for aquariums. You can put the lights on a timer and that will take care of the fish's sleep time.
