I just recently got a piece of Malaysian, to my surprise no tannins have been released at all! It just depends on your own preference, either way the tannins will clear up in a day or two.

I have a piece of mopani and Malaysian in my 60 gallon and I love them both. Really depends on the look your going for. They're both hard and heavy. I think Malaysian leeches more tannins for a longer period of time. My plecos like both. I think plants attatch easier to Malaysian, more nooks and crannies. On my mopani i tried to attatch the plants to the roughest parts.
