I currently have 3 Otos in my 55g to control algae and such. They're not doing the best job.... My question is should I buy more Otos or buy nerite snails?

I would buy more Otos because they are social. 6 or more is better.

If you haven't already try addressing the underlying causes for algae in your tank.

Light...reduce lighting to 6 hours a day. See if that helps. A timer is great if you don't already have one.

Water...weekly PWCs to keep water pristine.

Feeding...watch portions. Don't overfeed.

There is no " Algae Eater" that eats every kind of algae.
Otos eat biofilm and soft green algae.

Try reducing light to 6 hours. See if that helps. Something is out of balance.
I only ever had an algae issue in one of my 5 planted tanks.

Is sunlight hitting it ?

Your plants will still be ok with 6 hours.
This tank never gets algae

This one got some when I was sick and missed some water changes.

I also agree that more otos would be good. I have nerites in my tanks, and I will not say that they are amazing algae control. They are small and move slow. I just keep them because I like snails.
I have not tried this, but I have seen some advice about a "siesta period" where you turn off the lights for a an hour or 2 in the middle of your lighting period.

Do they stand a chance in an angel fish tank.

You would be surprised! It can work out if the hide. I actually know several people who keep them together. Personally I have never been brave enough to try. But, I would still just more otos.
