So your are suggesting going with the 75 instead of two 40's.

It's what I'd do.

I kept three tanks and honestly find myself being drawn more to the larger tank, never to the detriment of the smaller tank, just that I tend to prefer watching my larger tank more than my smaller tank so the tank maintenance on the smaller tank is much like a chore without that much reward.

Yes get a 75! And keep the 40! I have 3 a 150!! a 45 and a 20. That way you could have some cichlids and a community and if you only had one tank you would have to chose, just using those fish as examples. IMO the bigger the tank the BETTER!

I agree, upgrade and keep the existing tank. Two tanks just opens up a lot more options.
