My new betta launches himself like a shark breaking the water surface, I had to lower the water to about 8" because he was jumping at least 3" out of the water. What the heck is he doing?

Bettas are known to jump! Sounds to me like he is celebrating being out of a betta cup! Do you not have a lid?

It sounds like he doesn't want to be in the tank. Could be a possible water quality issue, or maybe he doesn't have enough cover. Is there anything floating in the tank?

Ohhh yes of course there's a lid! But there's a smallish cutout for a filter I am not using anymore. That's why I felt compelled to lower the water. Guess i should cover thst. Hahaha its just too funny, I swear he looks like a shark!

That's another thought I had.
No there's nothing floating. He's been getting 50% pwc daily with prime thanks to the good old nitrogen cycle. Ammonia doesn't go past. 25 though.
