My driftwood is here!!!!

I have no idea how my wood arrived in one piece, the box looked SO smashed!! But its here and its great!! I boiled it and rinsed it in some used tank water. It really adds a different look to the tank. Here are some pictures, you can see in the front of the tank is a "small bit" that I ordered as well.

thats awesome. you know after your post about local driftwood i went out and collected several pieces of interest and brought them home. they were grey to start. i picked one favorite and kept the others handy. this was sunday. i poured boiling water over it in my [acronym:52bdbc98fd="Home Depot"]HD[/acronym:52bdbc98fd] 5 [acronym:52bdbc98fd="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:52bdbc98fd] bucket and let it soak. the next evening tonight, i pured out the water and noticed that the tannins from this piece were almost yellow/green rather than brown. the wood is not very dense and floats easily at this point. i live in the rockies so the wood i found at least around here was dogwood or cottonwood. if i cant get it to sink i may try aggain. i live on a usda ranch and they have an aboritum of foreign trees and whatnot so i may try to find something more dense if this doesnt work, no slate pieces for me. i tell you though i say some awesome smaller stumps, i'd love a stump tank.anyway i will keep you posted since you asked and now i'm gonna try it.

i love your piece though... maybe i should just buy... hmmmm

lovely intricate piece of driftwood! Is that sand in your tank? what plant have you got in there, not the spikey grass, the other one. Looks great

wow, nice drift wood!

urville, careful that the wood you picked up isn't cedar. The sap in it (and sap can stay in it for a LOOOOONG time) can be toxic to fish.

that was from aquariumdriftwood.com. My husband and I went to this river that runs through town and I found this incredible piece of wood that I boiled and am trying to sink. How long does that usually take?

Driftwood

I also bought some driftwood from aquariumdriftwood.com and the box it arrived in was pretty well smashed, but the driftwood was in pretty good shape. Their wood looks nice and sinks!
