my fish died

Sadly, my 2 otos and all 4 of my ghost shrimp died while i was on vacation for 5 days. I fed them before i left so i figured they would be ok. Those, [acronym:2403faf8de="In my opinion"]IMO[/acronym:2403faf8de], where the least likely to die bcause they feed on algae and missed food tidbits. Well, at least im still have my 3 black phantom tetras.

this is what I don't understand.....

Why is it that fish commonly die when an aquarists goes on vacation ???

is it just Pure coincidence ??

surely a fish can survive without food for 5 days.
and
I doubt skipping 1 water change will do a big harm

Probably one died first, fouled the water, and that's what killed the others. Otos don't have a reputation for hardiness.

Sorry for your loss. I have never kept an otto alive for more than a couple of months even when I am home.
