It is a long fin koi or butterfly koi. And I don't know what he is but I want more!

What size is your tank? Koi will get big...

Yeah we expected him to get big he's in a 55 right now but when we move in a few months were gonna build a pond

Oh. The sad thing is ponds can usually only be looked in from the top... you might not see him very much.

Koi are pond fish. They ain't suitable for a aquarium. They do better in pond infact they look nicer in ponds.

But it ain't as motivating when you hardly ever see your fish...

You could put him in a pond in the summer, and keep him inside for the winter.

In the UK we have patio ponds (I guess you guys might call them deck ponds?). They are clear sided with wood or metal frames and sit above ground so you can see in. Would that be a better solution? I don't own one nor have I really looked into them, just seen them on sale at my local aquatic store, so they might be complete junk for all I know lol

I have seen some really cool koi ponds though I would like to get one myself just not sure if I have a place to put one cause I have a small yard
