My petco has stopped stocking common plecos!

Well, almost. They only have one left and the woman who stocks said she was only going to order the smaller ones from now on! Wow!
 
They are kind of useless really. They get too big for most tanks, and can get pretty mean. The smaller ones are better cleaners, have WAAAAY less bioload and dont get as agressive.
 
Other than the common reasons for not wanting/selling a pleco why would a store stop selling a fish? I'm asking more if they gave a reason like changing laws or something of that nature.

The question should be, why haven't they done it already. 95% of their customers don't have the space for them. With the variaty of fish that stay small enough for most peoples 10g's, fish that get as big as the common pleco should be left to local fish stores. The common pleco shouldn't be a common fish in this hobby.

Exactly the reason they stopped. They will order them for you if you want one with no problem, but they don't want to keep them anymore. The only one they have left has been there for forever and is already 6in.
