Hello everyone,
When I first set up my tank around a year and a half ago I bought what was labelled as a Salt & Pepper Syndontis (juvenile), however his/her colour and size now seem to reflect Syndontis Granulosus.

Have a look at the pictures, positive I.D would be great...p.s how big to these cat's get?

The pics are just a little out of focus, but I'm not seeing any of the white edging that the granulosus often has.

I have a euptera and yours actually remind me of him.

Hey thanks for the reply, aaah so you think he may be Syndontis Euptera? I did think his white/grey fins were nowhere near as bright as the pictures I have seen of Granulosus.

Here's a couple of clearer pictures:

Um, for ID purposes, which include being able to see any patterns/markings, your "clearer pictures" still stink.

Something about the tail fin, doesn't look like eupterus. But again, a really clear pic would help. Or, hopefully a person with lots of syno experience will pop in.

Well sorryyy haha! These are the clearest I can get, this is not an easy fish to photograph! He is only around 2 years old I would say. Being only about an inch long when I first got him a year and a half ago. He has no distinguishing marks that's the thing...mysterious...similar shape to Granulosus but not coloration of Eupterus either.

Now see, that is so much better. I knew you could do it!

It's not a eupterus. Hmmmmmmm...... I'm going to have to poke around, see what I can find.

He seems to have absolutely no pattern or design on his body. How strange.

Maybe not a synodontis at all? Try looking up Mystus leucophasis, AKA the asian upside down catfish, although that growth rate doesn't quite fit for leucophasis

It looks a lot like a leucophasis, especially with the hump after the pectoral. Plus they can be all black, which I am yet to find a synodontis that is all back

Thanks for the info, I'm looking into the Asian upside down Catfish possibility...here's some more snaps from today:
