I bought four nerite snails for my five gallon planted tank about three to four weeks ago and I am starting to find baby snails. I have read that they can only be bred in brackish water (my tank is not) and they do not eat plants (which they do). I was wondering If i was misinformed about their breeding habits or did i buy different kind of snail. Here are three different pictures of my snails.

They really look like nerites to me, but maybe pond snails? Or possibly trap door snails? I'm not too sure. If they're breeding in fresh water, theyre definitely not nerites. Are you sure the baby snails are nerites? They could be another type of snails that hitched a ride in on plants.

I will try to get a pick of the baby snails

Ditto.

The 1st picture seems to be for sure a nerite snail. So I immediately though was that you've got additional snails besides just the nerite.

You might have two different kinds of snails. I have nerites that lay eggs but they don't hatch in FW. I also have pond snails that came in on some plants and I find a baby now and then so you might have pond snails that came in on plants. A pic would help.

Ok guys here are some picks of the baby snails. It was hard to get a good shot since they were so small.

You can, but as long as you don't overfeed they should not get out of control. I'm not sure If they eat plants or not. Some people say they do, and some people say they don't. You can try putting a piece of lettuce in the tank, wait for the pond snails to gather on it, then take it out and dispose of it.

Yeah, you could leave them in the tank if you want, I love snails I my tank because I like to see my tank full of life:D
