I have a new tank setup and it's been running for a few days. It's a fishless cycle and but I've been adding a few fish flakes everyday. I put in a new Sponge Filter I was curious as to what your thoughts if i rinsed a cycled sponge from an established tank in the new tank water would that be enough to reseed the new sponge? How much would this alleviate new tank syndrome? Normally I would add some established filter media to a new filter but that's not possible with the sponge filter.

Hello 75...

If you put a sponge from an established tank into the filter in the new tank, this will instantly cycle it. You can replace the sponge in the established tank and the bacteria that's lost will repopulate the new sponge in a few hours. Then, you can add fish slowly to the new tank and test the water every day or two to make sure the bacteria in it is working.
