nitrate is too low

hey everybody, i have a 6 gallon tank with 4 tiger barbs, a corry cat, a pleco, and an african cichlid. i do water changes about every 2 weeks but the nitrate never seems to rise at all. what could be causing this? ive tested it with the quick dip stuff, and also taken water samples to 2 different lfs and they all tell me the nitrate is all good. im just curious, because they eat a TON of food.

Hi couplescaddy, All i can say is if your tank has cycled and you have a low nitrate then well done (If it is not broken dont try a fix it).

That is way too many fish for that tank. What type of African cichlid is it?
