nitrates

well i tested my 20 [acronym:82659d0f83="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:82659d0f83] and the test card was hard to read but i believe i had around 15 maybe lower but with a low light tank should i buy some fertilizer with that [acronym:82659d0f83="Parts per Million"]ppm[/acronym:82659d0f83]?

15 is reasonable, you can still get decent plant growth that way. The best conditions for plants are not healthy for fish. Mine is down around 7 [acronym:3b9b7ad349="Parts per Million"]ppm[/acronym:3b9b7ad349], and my plants are still growing.

generally fertilization is a waste unless you're going for a higer light tank.

That sounds like reasonable nitrates in a nice low light tank. If you have plants, and add no ferts... I would expect the nitrates to be lower...like zero. Keep an eye on those, you may be under filtered, or under water changed to allow that build up. 15 is not harmfull or anything, it is just higher than is explained by your situation [acronym:be51f0ca81="In my opinion"]IMO[/acronym:be51f0ca81]. All those plants should easily be using up the nitrates in the tank.

***Wave @ Skids*** same Skids from sfbaaps? If so I am almost finished with the DvD... man there is a lot of great plant info on there

sfbaaps? Either I'm having an accronym failure, or no. Sorry! I have the same avatar/name on saltwaterfish.com and reefcentral.com, although I havn't been hanging out there lately. (I'm slowly giving up on my saltwater dream, to expensive to do well.)

As far as nitrates goes, you won't get to 0 if your growth is limited by a different factor. Test enough nutrients and you'll find one at/near 0. That would be the one to fertilize if you're going to.

SFBaaps (San Francisco bay area aquatic plant society).

Yes something else has bottomed out in the tank. Most likely [acronym:8783d870ed="Phosphate"]PO4[/acronym:8783d870ed] as it directly affects the uptake of [acronym:8783d870ed="Nitrate"]NO3[/acronym:8783d870ed].
