Ok so I did about a half water change on Saturday and on Sunday I did a lilttle less than a quarter to put in a tank for my cousins fish(long story) so today I test my nitrate level and it's between 10 and 20 ppm....not sure which .... Is that ok..... I have a 55 gallon(2 yellow tip barbs, 2 firemouths, and 3 blood parrots) I feed them every other day......

Nitrates between 10-20 are fine but I wouldn't let them go much about 20. Your PWC's should be keeping them under 20.

supposively 40 is the highest for nitrats so i think tht's good if you wanthem to be lower try some live plants

I've heard 30 around here a bit, but I keep mine from exceeding 20. I think that's the best idea. Also, that way if you run into an emergency situation where you water changes get done late, you don't have hideously high nitrates that take you forever to get under control.
