oh my goodness.. red claw crabs

ok.. so I witnessed something very strange today, my red claw crab, who is about 3 inches now.. grabbed one of my african dwarf frogs and just started dragging him back to his lair...

now first off.. these guys got along for so long and now all of a sudden mr crab wants to eat him?!

I saved the frog, but is this some normal behavior ? I feed the crabs twice a week with some shrimp that I feed my anemone which they seem to love. and I supplement that with crab cuisine every other day since I rarely see them except when its shrimp time.

so like I asked before is this normal behavior? only one of them has gone after a frog, my other one who is the larger of the two stays on his side of the tank in the wood all day and eats with the catfish at night..

sorry for the long post.

Well, red claw crabs (Sesarma bidens and kin), like your Columbian sharks, should be kept in water of brackish salinity, and should be allowed access to atmospheric air. They will opportunistically consume most cohabitants, preferentially attacking soft-bodied bottom dwellers (though they will "go after" any otherwise relatively immobile fish [i.e. during their nocturnal rest phase]).
