What should the KH and GH readings be in a tropical tank?

I don't think there's any one standard. It depends on what your tap water is. Have you tested yours?

I have tested the tank and they are both on higher end on the scale. Not sure if this is where they should be

Kh 180 - 240

gh 120 - 180

I would not be too concerned. If they were both zero, then you would have a problem. Mine are both are off the charts high. The only issue I have is the deposits that I get along the top of the tanks & the lights- bit more work to keep things clean but thats about it.
