Petco

So I went to petco today to test my water and he said my nitrites are high, and told me to wait 6-8 weeks for them to lower. I'm very confused, could some one explain? And I have 2 Gouramis.

Don't listen to them, they use test strips and aren't always accurate, do you have a test kit? I would still do a 25% water change

I don't have a test kit but I need to get one.
And I do change my water one a week. And I've had my fish for about a month.

tell the person doing the test you want your water tested with the drops not the strips, they have both for testing, they never gave me a problem.
