I have several pieces of petrified wood I am wanting to place in my aquarium. They have been soaking for 3 days in declorinated salt water. How long should I wait to put them in my freshwater tank and any more ideas on how to make sure they are safe?

Curious as to why you are soaking them in saltwater? I've used lots of of pieces of petrified wood in my tanks, and never did anything but give them a good wash job.

Hhhhhmmmm - no clue what benefit salt would give other than potentially killing off any harmful organisms, but a good wash with hot water should do just as well.

In olden times we used to put a few drops of vinegar on a found rock and if it fizzed rejected it. If it didn't we rinsed it well and put it in the tank. I still do so and have not had any problems.
