ph confusion ?

i battle low ph conditions in a 30 gal f/w tank low bio load. small plants (4) no co2 supp. at this time. t5 lights. ph always at bottom of api scale (<6). i mix water w/prime sometimes for a few days before doing w/ch. 4/5 gal. tested that water mix this morn. also at bottom. tested tap source and way higher 7.8ish. any one have an idea what is going on w/ph drop. i added a little seacham ph / kh adjuster to mix and will retest in am. i always thought something in tank was causing ph plummet but now seeing that new stuff is also low i am sort of at a loss for why. tx 4 reading this if u got this far - ray

Have you tested tap water after letting it stand in a glass for 24hrs to de-gas? Not sure if you had?

Theres not a whole lot of things that will drop ph in your tank without turning your water brown. As was said, take a glass of water and let it sit out for a day then test the ph on that.

Tap water ph changes as gasses that are in the water are released.
