phoenix moss

Should phoenix moss stink when it is out of the tank? I bought some online and when i opened it up it has a god awful smell. I don't want to put it in my tank if it is bad, please help.

Unless the water is bad the moss shouldn't smell bad.

I've read a similar thread elsewhere about aquatic plants shipped froma vendor that arrived stinking incredibly, but as I recall the plants were healthy but some decay and warmth combined caused a horrid stink.

Quarantine them in buckets and see if the smell goes away with water changes.

i soaked them for 24 hours with water changes and the smell finally went away.
