Yeah most you buy at the store look bad but once they get a better tank and HIGH quality foods their colors will come out. Also I heard if you feed them protein rich foods they will grow faster. You should feed them a high quality flake like Omega One and some blood worms occasionally. They do better in heavily planted tanks and that also will help bring out their colors.
