Do you have to have co2 to have a successful planted tank?? I currently have a 55g tank and ive started to plant a few live plants! Im new to planted tanks so im just wondering will my plants do fine without co2 or will i have to get co2! If so what all do i need or need to do?

It really depends on the plants, lighting and how far you want to go with it.

Care to share any specifics on your lighting and any plants you have in mind?

This is my 75g no co2 or excel. I dose dry ferts once a week.

Lighting for 10hours a day. Tank is almost a year old.

In point you don't need co2, but picking the right lighting and plants is important.

I would get root tabs and dry ferts though.

Under a T8 NO 10,000K bulb I was able to grow wisteria, anacharis, and java ferns. I was running a 2 bottle DIY co2 system, but you don't have to.

I use DIY Osmocote Plus. 1/8 teaspoon of Osmocote in an ice cube tray, cover in water, and freeze. Once frozen take them out when needed and push down as far as possible into the substrate.

What plants do you have now?

Ok, the crypts and amazon swords require root tabs. The Osmocote Plus ones are very easy to use and work grear for my wisteria and amazon swords

How often do you use the osmocote plus? And is it just like 1 beside each plant?

I added mine a few weeks ago, they last for 3 months i believe. I added them 1 tab for a 4×4 inch area
