Came home today to find out my oscar has jumped out of my 55 gallon tank and was on the floor in front of the tank

He was housed with a synodontis catfish and a jack Dempsey

The tank is mainly covered there are ends that are not for about 4 inches

I tested the water
Ph 7.2
Ammonia 0 ppm
Nitrite 0 ppm
Nitrated 80 ppm
I did a 15 gallon water change while also

My question is
Is it common for oscar to try to jump or is there something possibly in the water that I should check for

Your nitrates arr high, that can cause issues. How big are the fish? The jack may have chased the oscar till he jumped.

The oscar is about 6 inches the jack is the same and it normally the oscar chasing the jack

I know the nitrates are high but for that tank that is normal between weekly water charges due to the oscar being a messy eater

Tbh that tank is too small for that big and aggressive stock. And jacks can get nasty. I'd say at the very least you need to be doing bigger water changes, more like 30-50%.

In your mind is there anything that can be added to the tank to replace the oscar since it looks kinda barren with both the jack an catfish hiding most times

I've been contemplating doing an African cichlid tank
Do rehome the jack and go for that
