Pool Filter sand for rams?

I have pool filter sand I bought from Home Depot for 5$ for a 50lbs bag. At the LFS the "live" sand cost about 30$ for a 15lbs bag, so I would just go with some good old filter sand. It'll become "live" really quickly if you're adding it to your tank little by little with established gravel. I wouldn't waste your money, but that's just me being a broke college student haha. :>
