Possible to make my established tank into an aquaponic system?

Another hobby I have is growing plants indoors under fluorescent lights. If I could combine fishes and plants that would be interesting. It's ok if I can't do it in my current 10 gallon, but I may breed discus in a 55 gallon.

Thoughts?

It can be done for sure. Now, should it be done with discus? I'm not sure that would work so well. Just because of the care and water conditions they require.
